Why are so many people moving this summer?

Usually at this time of year families are enjoying the school summer holidays together and going abroad to make the most of the summer, before schools go back and winter encroaches. And if it's anything like Bristol's last winter then we are in for another wet one!

We usually see a slowing in the property market in Bristol at this time of year since everyone is off enjoying their holidays. But instead this year there has been a huge surge in the amount of activity following the pause in spring.

Being in lock-down has given people an opportunity to actually spend time in their homes and reevaluate their priorities, meaning there are more people moving to the countryside. And why not, the British countryside is beautiful! If people no longer need to be in their offices Monday to Friday to work, then why live in an urbanised city when you can enjoy the beaches, fields and parks around us.

And although not many of us are on holiday, we are enjoying a Stamp Duty holiday. With Rightmove suggesting that July was the busiest month for house-mover numbers for a decade.

Rightmove analytics are also suggesting that available houses on the market are down 8% compared to last year. This implies there is a great deal more demand then supply, meaning this could be a potentially fantastic time to sell since prices are being pushed upwards.

So although you may not get a holiday abroad, maybe its time to make the most of the Stamp Duty holiday in 2020.
